Central to Lewis's residency project is the premise that the experience of audio art is fundamentally conditioned by both the technological apparatus we use to reproduce it and the space through which we come to hear it. In other words, the sound of an audio work itself changes with the conditions of its reanimation. This, of course, could be considered a fundamental problem for an audio art archive, where sound works are solidified into very particular material artifacts, and require a complex technical system in order to be heard again. Yet rather than see this is a problem, what if we see this as an open question to explore and exploit ?{br} What if we were to think of an archive in an extended sense, as a network and community ?{br} The evening is intended to be multifaceted :{br} • a social encounter with the OBORO audio art archive in the form of a pop-up exhibition of archival audio art{br} • a nanocurated lab where artists who have worked with OBORO have the opportunity to reanimate, reposition, recompose and reengage their archival work{br} • an event where all are active participants, where boundaries between artist and audience, critic and theorist, maker and listener, become somewhat blurry {br} • a space for, listening, hearing, play and discussion. {br} Please move about the room, attend to the works in whatever way you prefer, and talk about what you hear and why you are hearing it.{br}{br}{small}'''Lewis Kaye, writer/researcher in residence and Stéphane Claude, Head of Research, Audio Sector at OBORO'''{/small}{br}{br}[../files/img/20120815_oboro3.jpg]{br}{br}---- '''Stereophonic piece for recorded clarinettes''' (1995){br}''digital editing and mixing. Realisation at the studio audiolab Villa Arson Nice (France). Clarinet player : François Dutreuil.''{br} Produced in 1995 at the occasion of the collective exhibition Murs du Sons / Murmures which took place at the Villa Arson Contemporary Art Center in Nice, this very physical and immersive work specifically plays with the listening place and space. The musical composition is based on sequences of frequencies' beatings that are appearing in the room where you're listening to it.{br}{br} '''''Pièce Stéréophonique pour clarinettes enregistrées''' (1995){br}montage et mixage numériques. Réalisation studio audiolab Villa Arson Nice (France). La composition est basée sur les séquencements de battements des fréquences qui apparaissent dans l'espace dans lequel vous l'écoutez.''{br}{br}{br} '''For JW (1998)'''{br} ''for electronic sounds. Realisation at the studio audiolab Villa Arson Nice (France).''{br} For JW is a work for electronic sound to be played on a stereophonic system ; each sound channel, right and left, is independant from the other. Designed for a spatial sound system that was connected to a video installation (titled Oktogon - Sonne) by the German artist Jürgen Waller and which has been shown several times in Europe, this work is entirely mobilizing the listening space. The combinations of frequencies (around 80 Hz) in space and according to the position of the loudspeakers cause acoustic beatings that the listener can vary and experience by moving into the room or by simply turning the head.{br}{br} '''''Pour JW''' (1998){br}pour sons électroniques.
